# Check the Claim: the six questions (free sample)

A free PaperChaseWebb sample from Check the Claim (expanded edition). One method, one prompt and one card template for checking a claim before you use it. Plain Markdown for any agent with web search.

## The six questions

1. What exactly is claimed? One sentence: number, time window, subject.
2. Who is saying it, and what does the post lead to?
3. Does it survive its own arithmetic? Divide the amount by the units. Check whether a total is a sum of best cases.
4. What evidence would prove it, and does the post offer any?
5. What did independent, primary sources find? Copies of the post do not count.
6. Verdict: CONFIRMED, CATEGORY ONLY, UNVERIFIED, CONTRADICTED or NOT CHECKABLE.

## The prompt

```
Here is a post: [paste]. Do not search yet.
List every claim as one sentence with number, window and subject.
Run arithmetic on the creator's own figures first and show the math.
Then research from primary sources only, and give each claim one verdict:
CONFIRMED, CATEGORY ONLY, UNVERIFIED, CONTRADICTED or NOT CHECKABLE.
Label every figure (creator), (independent: source) or (our math).
If you find nothing, say so. Do not fill gaps.
```

## The card

```markdown
# Claim card: [short name]
Post: [link] by [creator]. Leads to: [funnel | course | tool | nothing]
Claim: [one sentence]
Arithmetic: [math] (our math)
Found: [source, date, what it supports]
Verdict: [one of five]. Would change if: [one line]
Safe to use: [one sentence]
```
