## What they did

The author used OpenAI's always-on agent for a month of daily chores and noticed the same tasks being reasoned through from scratch each time, with mixed results. They changed the request: instead of 'do this every morning', they asked the agent to write a script or tiny app that does it, then let that run on a schedule. The agent stays useful for building and fixing the tool, not for being the tool.

## Worth knowing

A rule of thumb: if a task has the same steps every time, code should do it; if it needs judgment each time, the agent should. The code is also easier to inspect than a chain of agent actions.
