## What they did

The author wanted a task board that both people and agents use, without a heavy SaaS integration. Kanzo runs as one small self-hosted app. Its MCP server exposes a short set of tools, so an agent can ask for the next task, add comments as it works and move the card when done, while the person sees the same board in a browser. The author used Claude to measure binary size, memory use and the token cost of the tool definitions after each change and kept them small on purpose.

## Worth knowing

The tool list an MCP server loads into every session is a recurring cost, so a server with a few well-named tools is cheaper to keep connected than a large one. Keeping tasks in a board the agent can read also means the plan survives between sessions. Size and token figures are the author's.
