Discord game night bot: Game Night Time Check (free sample)
by PaperChaseWebb
From the Discord game night bot: see every member's real start time before you announce, catch a start the clock change skips or repeats, keep reminders to one at a time, and run five checks on the post. Your agent drafts; your yes is recorded at your own terminal and the gate stops any post changed after it.

What you end up with
An announcement with a Discord timestamp that matches your start, nobody surprised by a 3 AM session, and reminders that never stack up late.
What you get
- The plan: a Discord timestamp for your start, each member's local start and end, and a flag for anyone in quiet hours
- A clock change check that stops a start that does not exist or happens twice
- A reminder clock for 24 hours and 30 minutes before: one due at a time, passed ones marked MISSED and never posted late
- Five post checks: wrong or missing timestamp, bare clock times, tonight or tomorrow, @everyone or @here, and placeholders
- Your yes at your own terminal, refused in agent sessions, and a gate that says NO-GO if the post changed
- AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, a Grok Bot standing order, a Hermes skill and 22 tests
Who it is for
Hosts of Discord gaming groups with members in more than one time zone who let an agent draft server posts but post them by hand.
Works with
Solid chips: the agent is named in this listing's own tools list. Dashed chip: One Python script, templates, a made-up co-op group of five and agent rules for each harness. Tested on Linux.
Tools needed
Cost to run: Free. Python is free.
Time to result: About five minutes
How it works
Run the example
Unpack the file and, inside example/, run python3 ../nightcheck.py plan night.txt roster.csv.
Expected: The timestamp, four members OK and one in quiet hours at 03:00.
Fill in your night
Copy templates/, set your start and zone in night.txt, one row per member in roster.csv and your name in settings.json.
Expected: PLAN PASS, or a clear flag to fix.
Let the agent draft
Give it AGENTS.md. It writes drafts/post.md with the timestamp and checks it.
Expected: POST PASS, nothing posted.
Approve and post yourself
Run python3 nightcheck.py approve settings.json drafts/post.md, type post, then paste it into Discord.
Expected: gate says GO until the post changes.
Sample prompt from the pack
Follow AGENTS.md. Run nightcheck.py plan on night.txt and roster.csv, tell me about any quiet hours or clock change flag, write drafts/post.md with the Discord timestamp, and run nightcheck.py post until it passes. Show me the plan and the post, then stop. Never approve, post, ping or schedule anything.
The script and the agent files are in the file.

# Game Night Time Check **A game night at 8 is 3 in the morning for someone. This free sample shows every member's real start time before you announce, catches the hour a clock change skips, and keeps reminders to one at a time. Your agent drafts; you approve and post.** Version 1.0, 2026-11-04. By PaperChaseWebb Inc. Free sample of the Discord game night bot ($29). Works with Grok Bot, Claude Code, Codex and Hermes, or by hand. Python 3.9 or newer, no installs. Not affiliated with Discord. ## What you get out of it - The Discord timestamp for your start, so each member sees it in their own time, plus each member's local start and end and a flag for anyone inside their quiet hours. - A clock change check: a start that does not exist (clocks jump forward) or happens twice (clocks fall back) is stopped before anyone sees it. - A reminder clock for 24 hours and 30 minutes before. At most one is due at a time; one that passed while nothing was running is marked MISSED, never posted late on top of the next. - Five checks on the announcement: the timestamp matches the start, no bare clock times, no "tonight" or "tomorrow", no @everyone or @here, no leftover placeholders. - A host yes, recorded at your own terminal, tied to the post as it reads. Change one word and the gate says NO-GO. ## Who it is for Hosts of Discord gaming groups with members in more than one time zone, and anyone who lets an agent draft server posts but posts them by hand. ## Set up (5 minutes) 1. Test record
- Date
- Nov 4, 2026
- What was run
- tests/test_nightcheck.py (22 tests) unpacked from the sample file and run fresh on Linux, Python 3.9, 3.11, 3.12 and 3.13; plan, remind, post, approve and gate on the made-up example.
- Result
- 22 passed, 0 failed on all four versions; the example gives the right timestamp, four members OK and one in quiet hours; skipped and repeated clock change starts are stopped; only one reminder is due at a time and passed ones are MISSED; the clean post passes and the bad one fails five ways; the yes is refused in agent sessions, without a terminal, for the wrong name, without the typed word and for a post with findings; an edit after the yes makes the gate say NO-GO.
- Not run
- macOS or Windows. Python 3.8. A live Discord server. A live Grok Bot, Claude Code, Codex or Hermes session.
Copied from this item's dated test notes. What was not run stays in.
Worth knowing
- The sample checks times, zones, reminders and five rules on the post. Slash commands, RSVPs, polls, the patch note watcher and a running bot are in the full bot.
- On 2026-11-04: 22 tests passed on Python 3.9, 3.11, 3.12 and 3.13 on Linux, run from the files unpacked out of the sample. Python 3.8 is not supported (it needs zoneinfo). Agent rules guide; they were not loaded inside each harness for this release. Not affiliated with Discord.
Questions
Does it post to Discord?
No. It never connects to Discord. It reads files, prints results and records your yes. You post it yourself.
Can my agent approve a post?
No. The yes is refused inside an agent session, without a terminal and for anyone but the owner in settings.json.
What is in the full bot?
The running bot: slash commands, RSVPs, reminders that mention RSVPs only, polls, a Steam and RSS patch note watcher, SQLite storage, a Dockerfile and 24 offline tests. $29.
