# Job Search Setup for Cursor or Claude Code Turn a folder into a job search workspace your coding agent can run: one master resume as the only source of truth, a tracker, one folder per job, six prompts for fit checks, tailoring, cover letters and interview prep, and a read-only checker that flags any claim in a tailored resume that is not in your master resume. The agent drafts. You apply. ## Contents 1. What you get, and what it will never do 2. Set up the folder (10 minutes) 3. AGENTS.md 4. CLAUDE.md pointer 5. tracker.csv 6. Six prompts 7. tailor_check.py 8. How this was tested 9. Limits ## 1. What you get, and what it will never do An agent that knows your history and writes tailored drafts fast is useful. One that "improves" your resume with numbers you never hit, or applies on your behalf, is a risk. This setup keeps the first and blocks the second: - **Truth rules:** every claim must come from master-resume.md, and tailor_check.py checks the numbers, skills, role headings, email and phone. - **Never rules:** it never submits an application, fills a job site form, sends a message or logs in to your accounts. - If you already own **Ask-first rules for AI agents** (pp-ask-first), this is the same idea written for one job: the approval rules there apply across every agent, and the rules here are the job search version, ready to drop in. ## 2. Set up the folder (10 minutes) 1. Make a folder, for example `job-search/`, and open it in Cursor or Claude Code. 2. Save sect
Test record
- Date
- Oct 30, 2026
- What was run
- tailor_check.py from the pack text on a made-up job search folder and on one planted fault per code J01 to J10, and a missing folder. Linux, Python 3.13.5.
- Result
- PASS and exit 0 on the clean folder; 10 of 10 planted faults caught alone; exit 2 on a missing folder; fixtures unchanged.
- Not run
- The AGENTS.md and prompts inside Cursor or Claude Code on a real search. Real resumes in other layouts. Windows.
Copied from this item's dated test notes. What was not run stays in.
Worth knowing
- The checker compares text; a reworded claim with no new number, skill or heading is not caught, so read every draft.
- It never applies or contacts anyone, and makes no promise about interviews or offers.
