A playable Godot jam starter that tests itself (free sample)
by PaperChaseWebb
From the Game Jam Kit: one line writes a small playable Godot 4 game with its goal on screen from the first frame, a 48-hour plan with seven milestones, ten agent rules and three empty ledgers. The game plays itself headless and exits 0 or 1, a quick read-only check covers five common jam faults, and the docs answer whether a released game can safely call an LLM.

What you end up with
In a few minutes you have a game you can play, a plan your agent can follow and a self-test it can run after every change.
What you get
- A one-line install
- A playable Godot 4 dodge game with a headless self-test
- JAM.md with a 48-hour, seven-milestone plan and a cut list
- AGENTS.md with ten rules for any coding agent
- A five-check quick check with a worked example: 5 findings, then 0
- The safe way to call an LLM from a released game
Who it is for
Anyone about to start a jam or a weekend game with a coding agent who wants something playable and a plan before the first prompt.
Works with
Solid chips: the agent is named in this listing's own tools list. Dashed chip: Plain Markdown, so it also pastes into other agents such as Grok Bot, Hermes, OpenClaw or Muse. We list those as compatible by format only, not as tested.
Tools needed
Cost to run: Free.
Time to result: About five minutes from download to playing
Sample prompt from the pack
Save the python block in this file as jam_starter.py and run python3 jam_starter.py my-jam. Then run the Godot self-test headless and paste the exit code. Read AGENTS.md and JAM.md, and wait for me to fill in the theme and say which milestone to start.
The rules and the plan are in the file.

# Godot jam starter that tests itself (free sample of the Game Jam Kit)
Version 1.0, 2026-10-28. By PaperChaseWebb. Works with Grok Bot, Claude Code, Codex and Hermes. Free. One Python 3 script, standard library only. The game it writes was run on Godot 4.7.2, headless and with a window.
This is the part of the Game Jam Kit (pp-game-jam-kit, $29) you can use tonight: one command writes a small playable Godot 4 game, a 48-hour plan with seven milestones, the agent rules and three empty ledgers. The game can play itself headless and tell your agent whether it still works. The full kit adds the Unity two-day PRD, the three owner approval steps with hashes, the scope-cut checklist, a fifteen-check read-only jam_check.py tested on a seeded fixture, a tested LLM proxy for games and twelve prompts.
## Install in one line
Save this file, then in the same folder:
```
awk '/^```python$/{f=1;next}/^```$/{f=0}f' playable-godot-jam-starter-that-tests-itself-free-sample.md > jam_starter.py && python3 jam_starter.py my-jam
```
Or tell your agent: "Save the python block in this file as jam_starter.py and run python3 jam_starter.py my-jam." Then:
```
godot --path my-jam # play: survive 30 seconds, arrows or WASD, R to restart
godot --headless --path my-jam -- --selftest # the game plays itself and exits 0 or 1
python3 jam_starter.py check my-jam # five quick checks on the plan and files
```
You need Python 3.8 or newer and Godot 4.3 or newWorth knowing
- The sample has no Unity PRD, approval hashes, full jam check or LLM proxy; the full kit adds them, tested on a seeded fixture.
- On 2026-10-28 the starter's self-test passed on Godot 4.7.2 headless, and the quick check gave 5 findings on the worked example, then 0.
Questions
Can a published game call an LLM at runtime?
Yes, if the key stays on your own server, the rules stay in code and spend is capped per player and per day. The sample explains the three conditions; the full kit has the tested proxy and client.
What is in the full kit?
The Unity two-day PRD, three owner approvals tied to hashes, the scope-cut checklist, jam_check.py with fifteen checks and a seeded fixture, a tested LLM proxy and Godot client, rules blocks, twelve prompts and harness notes. $29.

Game Jam Kit: a 48-hour Godot 4 plan and a two-day Unity PRD that a coding agent can follow
A tested jam method for working with a coding agent: seven milestones per engine, each with a first version, a first test and a written list of what to leave out, a JAM.md the agent cannot change without your new yes, three owner approvals (scope lock, art and audio licenses, upload), a scope-cut checklist and a fifteen-check read-only jam_check.py. Includes a playable Godot 4 starter that tests itself headless, and a tested proxy for games that call an LLM while people play.
