What you end up with
You can see whether your return policy says how long, from when, how to start, how refunds are paid and who pays to send it back before an agent or a customer finds out the hard way.
What you get
- Why return policies need checking
- Ten rules for agents that write or tidy return pages
- returns_mini.py: ten read-only checks for one policy
- A made-up candle store policy with six findings to try it on
Who it is for
Anyone who wants a quick check on what their return policy actually tells a customer.
Works with
Solid chips: the agent is named in this listing's own tools list. Dashed chip: Plain Markdown, so it also pastes into other agents such as Grok Bot, Hermes, OpenClaw or Muse. We list those as compatible by format only, not as tested.
Tools needed
Cost to run: Free.
Time to result: About five minutes to a first scan
Sample prompts, free to use
Run python3 returns_mini.py on my return policy in [file]. List every finding and tell me which line to change. Do not change the live site.
The rules and script are in the file.

# Refund and Returns Desk: safe return policy rules and a ten-check policy scan (free sample) Version 1.0, 2026-11-01. By PaperChaseWebb. For anyone who sells physical goods online, or lets an AI agent tidy their return policy. One page and one Python 3 script, standard library only, read-only: it reads one policy, prints findings and changes nothing. It sends nothing and opens no network connection. No API key, no login. Tested on Linux with Python 3.13, 3.12, 3.11, 3.9 and 3.8: 3 unit tests, and 19 of 19 planted faults caught. The example business is made up. Not legal advice. ## Why return policies need checking California and New York ask stores to post their refund policy where buyers can see it, and California lets a buyer return for a refund within 30 days when no policy is posted. The FTC's mail and online order rule asks you to tell buyers when an order will be late and offer to cancel for a refund. A clear policy also cuts the emails and chargebacks that start with "your page said". Most small return policies slip in the same few ways: - "Returns within 30 days" with no word on 30 days from when. - No link, form or email to start a return. - Nothing on whether refunds go back to the card or as store credit. - Nothing on who pays to send the item back. - A restocking fee with no amount. - "All sales are final" two lines under a 30 day window. - "Refunds at our sole discretion." - "This policy is fully compliant with consumer law." ## Rules to paste into AGENTS.
Test record
- Date
- Nov 1, 2026
- What was run
- tests/test_mini.py (3), 19 planted faults against returns_mini.py, and the copy extracted from the sample page. Linux, Python 3.13, 3.12, 3.11, 3.9 and 3.8.
- Result
- 3 passed, 0 failed on all five versions; 19 of 19 faults caught; the extracted copy was identical to the tested script and found 6 problems on the example policy.
- Not run
- Your settings and facts, the full page checks, the order check, the request review, the fix check and the eval set (the full kit does those).
Copied from this item's dated test notes. What was not run stays in.
Worth knowing
- The sample checks one policy on its own. Your settings and facts, the delivery page, product page and delay notice checks, the order list and request review, the fix check against the original, the eval set, owner approval and agent setups are in the full kit.
- Not legal advice. It does not say a policy meets any law.
- On 2026-11-01 returns_mini.py passed 3 unit tests and 19 of 19 planted faults on Linux with Python 3.13, 3.12, 3.11, 3.9 and 3.8, and the copy extracted from the sample page was identical to the tested script.
Questions
Does it change my files or send anything?

Refund and Returns Desk: agent fixes for your return policy, delivery page and delay notice, policy matched, refund amounts checked, owner approved
Let an agent tidy your return policy, delivery page, product page and delay notice, check refunds and late orders against your order list, and review replies to refund requests, without inventing a window, a fee or free returns, or telling a customer a refund was made when it was not. It writes fixed copies and never touches the live site, refunds anything or sends anything. A fix check refuses a removed return window, a deleted sentence, a new promise or a new email. You approve at your terminal and paste it in yourself.
